Small tips on how to how to take good care of your lingerie

Just like every piece in your wardrobe, your lingerie deserves care and attention. Whether it’s your everyday essentials or the ones that you save for special occasions, lingerie – when overused or not enough – will eventually end up looking tatty and tired. Here, we will share some small tips on how to properly care for lingerie, giving your pieces more wearability for years to come.

1 Wash and Learn

The first thing you only need to wash your bra after two to three wears – unless you’ve been doing sweaty and strenuous sporting activities. Sports bras, however, do require daily hand washing.

2 Give Me a Break

Your favorite bra needs a break, especially if you want to ensure longevity. Once you have found your favorite bra, buy it in a variety of colors to keep on rotation in order to make swapping an easier task.

3 Out of Sight, Out of Mind

It also suggests that you should try to dedicate an entire drawer to your undergarments, keeping your lingerie neatly stacked. It’s important to try and make them all visible when the drawer is fully opened, in order to allow you a clear view of everything that you have available. Make sure that space is dry to avoid mold forming on your precious lingerie.

Place your favorite bras at the front of the drawer, and your more occasional bras towards the back. This will encourage you to use a larger variety of your bras, rather than just reaching for your trusty favorite every morning. Make it a habit to place your freshly washed knickers at the bottom of your panty pile to allow a constant flow and ensure use of all of your thongs and panties.”

4 Gently Does It

When washing delicate lingerie, use a mild soap such as wool shampoo or flakes of pure household soap with cold water. When rinsing, fill the sink with cold water and add a teaspoon of white vinegar to remove soap residue. Wrap the silk with a dry towel, and then gently pat to remove moisture. Roll out the silk to straighten the corners. Avoid squeezing, rubbing, and wringing the fabric when drying lingerie.”

5 Bag of Tricks

If you really don’t have time to hand wash your underwear, invest in a special lingerie protective pouch, which allows you to throw your underwear straight into the washing machine with similarly colored loads. However, always ensure that you set the washing machine on a gentle, delicate cycle using warm – never hot – water. And, unfortunately, if you want to give your lingerie longevity, the tumble dryer is an absolute no-no!
